Alkaptonuria, also known as AKU or Black Bone Disease, is an extremely rare genetic condition, which can cause significant damage to the bones, cartilage and tissues of those affected. The AKU Society helps transform the lives of AKU patients through patient support, community building and medical research.

Our brief was to:

• Increase the reach of the website
• Increase engagement of the community
• Streamline the communication from the website
• Increase in audio & video presentation on the website
• Increase online giving and fundraising
• Build a framework the AKU Society can build on
• Ensure an accessible design
• Value for money

Through our consultancy process we helped the AKU Society to re-think the architecture of their site to help the user experience. We designed and developed a responsive CMS WordPress website with special attention to the accessibility of the site.
